How to Zip Files

Modified on Fri, Mar 25, 2022 at 1:07 PM

Zipping files allows you to group and compress many files into one collection, which makes sharing files with others much easier.

Windows

  • Select the files you would like to zip. You can click and drag, or you can hold CTRL and click multiple files to select them together. It may also be easier to put these files into a folder and zip the folder, which will reduce the total file size of the folder.
  • Right click one of the selected files, then hover over "Send To" and choose "Compressed (zipped) folder"

Once it finishes, you should see a zipped file! You can rename the file by right clicking and choosing "Rename".

Mac

  • Select which files you'd like to zip, then right click and choose "Compress # Items". You can click and drag, or you can hold CMD and click multiple files to select them together. It may also be easier to put these files into a folder and zip the folder, which will reduce the total file size of the folder.

  • This will create a zip file in the current folder. You can rename it by right clicking the zip file and choosing "Rename Item"
